Nurturing Women's Livelihoods at DEEP Trust
With a significant portion of India’s population being young and the country set to have the largest workforce by 2027, there is an urgent need to address unemployment, particularly among women from underserved communities. With India’s female labour force participation rate rising from 23.3% in 2017-18 to 41.7% in 2023-24, there is still significant room for improvement in women’s employment. At DEEP Trust, we recognize the urgent need to address unemployment among women, particularly those from underserved communities.
At DEEP Trust, we recognize that the primary obstacle is not the lack of job opportunities but the absence of essential employability skills. Our mission is to equip women with the skills that will enhance their employability and enable them to thrive in an ever-changing job market .
Our Approach
We believe that women with a combination of skills, including broad-based education and training, basic and portable high-level skills, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills, are most employable and adaptable to changes in the world of work. Our programs are designed to provide these crucial skills through practical, hands-on training.
Our Programs and Partnerships
DEEP Trust has strengthened its livelihood programs through strategic partnerships with established organizations:
In collaboration with the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust (KGNMT)
- Tailoring: Our curriculum now includes advanced techniques in drafting, cutting, and stitching various garments, drawing from KGNMT's extensive experience across multiple Indian states.
- Jute Bag Making: This eco-friendly initiative has been bolstered by KGNMT's expertise, offering participants additional techniques for creating diverse jute products and access to broader market networks.
In collaboration with Today's Kalam Foundation
- Lac Bangles Training: Participants learn advanced design techniques, color mixing, and finishing methods for creating marketable products.
- Mehendi Art Classes: The program now includes innovative patterns, application methods, and customer service skills, preparing women for opportunities in the beauty and wedding industries.
